Sara-Jeanne Hosie stars in Side by Side by Sondheim with Saltwater

Sara-Jeanne is an actor, director and choreographer. An island girl at heart, Sara-Jeanne is always thrilled to come back home to work. Victoria audiences would know Sara-Jeanne as Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors (Bluebridge Rep Theatre); Patsy Cline in A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline, a role she continues to play nationally; and Rona in 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (Belfry Theatre/Jessie Award) Other Favourite Credits as an actor include; Fantine in Les Miserables, Betty Haynes in White Christmas, Sally Bowles in Cabaret, Sarah in Company, (Arts Club Theatre); Adelaide in Guys & Dolls (Jessie nomination); Velma Kelly in Chicago (Sterling nomination); Lorelei Lee in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (Mayfield Theatre); Nellie in South Pacific (Chemainus) Babette in Beauty and the Beast (Citadel); Ernestina in Hello Dolly (The Playhouse); Vaudeville and Damn Yankees(Drayton); Cassie in A Chorus Line (RCMT). Mike Delamont  stars in  Side by Side by Sondheim

Mike Delamont

 

Mike is one of Victoria’s best known comedians having just recently become the first local comic to play the McPherson Playhouse. His hit solo show, God Is A Scottish Drag Queen, has played to sold out houses across the country and was nominated for a 2012 Just For Laughs Best Comedy Award. Mike has performed at Upright Citizens Brigade in New York and at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. This year he will begin a 6 month North American tour in May and his first stand up comedy special “Mike Delamont: Husky Panda” is expected to air on television in the fall. As a singer Mike was trained at the Conservatory of Music, was nominated for a Victoria Critics Choice award for his portrayal of Jud in Chemainus Theatre’s Oklahoma, and he also released his debut album ‘Make Them Hear You’ in 2010.

Alison Roberts

Alison Roberts

Alison has been dancing since the age of 2 studying ballet, musical theatre, modern, jazz, lyrical, hip hop, and contemporary as well as completing her Advanced 2 tap (ISTD). She has competed in various dance competitions in both Victoria and Vancouver winning numerous awards and scholarships. In addition to being an accomplished dancer, she possesses impressive vocal abilities. She has been trained in classical, pop, musical theatre and jazz styles. She had the honour of singing with Kenny Rogers in his Christmas Tour, was a vocalist at the main stage show at Butchart Gardens and has sang the Canadian Anthem for various sold out games for the Victoria Royals Hockey Team. Alison was also extremely fortunate to sing back up for Josh Groban at a performance for the David Foster foundation. Her vocal talents have allowed her to be very successful in the musical theatre world giving her a full resume to prove it. She has been in over 30 musical productions and has been a lead performer in almost all of them. Alison completed a year at the Canadian College of Performing Arts where she was awarded the scholarship for Best Audition, the award for the top Musical Theatre student in her year as well as graduating with honours and being the dance captain for the end of year production of Crazy for You. A few months into her first year she auditioned for the Vancouver Opera’s production of West Side Story, choreographed by Tracey Flye, and got cast as a Jet girl. She decided to take this amazing opportunity and made her professional debut. After this experience Alison signed on with Melissa Panton at da Costa Talent and has been auditioning and working since.

Alison currently lives in Vancouver and is training at Harbour Dance in the Intensive Training Program. She is a very dedicated, passionate, and driven individual who has many exciting accomplishments under her belt for such a young age. She is continuing to work on enriching her skills as a true triple threat performer by keeping up her vocal, dance, and acting training constantly and always learning from those around her. *Alison Roberts appears with the permission of Canadian Actors’ Equity Association.

Alan Macdonald stars in Side by Side by Sondheim

Originally from Halifax, Nova Scotia, baritone Alan Macdonald recently received his Masters of Music in opera performance from the University of British Columbia. His recent performances include Danillo (Die Lustige Witwe) performed with both the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and UBC Opera, Thomas Putnam (The Crucible), Roach (The Secret Garden), Mr. Gedge (Albert Herring), Father Christmas (The Mummer’s Masque) and Father (Pandora’s Locker). Alan is an alumini of the Banff Centre’s Opera as Theatre Program as well as Vancouver Opera’s Young Artist Coaching Intensive and Pre-Professional Internship Programs.

Joseph Bulman 

In Victoria, Joseph Bulman has performed with Saltwater as the Cat in the Hat in Seussical, Charlie in the Weill/Brecht Mahagonny Songspiel and Mummers Masque by Canadian Composer Dean Burry. Joseph received his Bachelor’s of Music in Voice from the University of Lethbridge & Master’s in Opera Performance from the University of British Columbia. He played the comic roles of Gherardo in Gianni Schicchi and Bardolfo in Falstaff with Opera Nuova and the role of Albert in Benjamin Britten’s Albert Herring with UBC Opera. In the fall of 2011 Joseph toured to the Hunan Province in China as a featured artist in the 2011 Zhangjiajie International World Music Week. Joseph created the role of The Waki in Shadow Catch, produced by Vancouver Pro-Music for the city’s 125th birthday celebration. Recently he  was featured in the world premier of the new chamber opera Little Crimes produced by Restless Productions in Vancouver in December 2012.

Kat Palmer stars in Side by Side by Sondheim

Kat Palmer

A recent graduate of the Canadian College of Performing Arts, Kat Palmer is rapidly making her mark on the musical theatre scene. Born and raised in Ottawa, Kat began singing and acting at an early age. Her love of singing soon lead her to take classical voice lessons and she went on to study vocal music intensively at Canterbury Arts High School.
Since moving to BC, Kat has been fortunate to perform with many diverse theatre companies including The Gold Fever Follies, Puente Theatre, Gotta Getta Gimmick, Prairie Skies Musical Theatre Co., UBC and North Shore Light Opera Society. She has received numerous awards for her achievements as a young artist including the Vandekerhove Foundation Award for Voice, the Janet Irwin Award for Acting, the Peter Evans Trophy for Musical Theatre and Puente Theatre Award for Multiculturalism. Most recently, she just completed a run of Fiddler on The Roof at The Gateway Theatre in Vancouver, playing Hodel. Kat appeared in Saltwater’s production of Seussical last season, and is delighted to be returning to share the stage with this wonderfully talented cast.

Sean Guist, Director

 

Sean Guist holds an MFA in directing and creation from the University of Lethbridge, as well as a BFA (with distinction) in performance from the same institution. Guist has acted, directed, designed, created and produced shows at the U of L, independently and on the Fringe circuit. His research is focused in queer theatre, physical theatre, plays in development, directing for theatre and opera, acting coaching, and synthesizing multiple aspects of performance into new works. Recent credits include adapting, directing and choreographing R & J: An Original Performance Creation, based on Romeo & Juliet, assistant directing and movement coaching Shakespeare’s Richard III, directing SPAIN by Michael Rubenfeld and Menotti’s one act opera The Telephone. Michel Marc Bouchard’s The Madonna Painter served as Guist’s MFA thesis production in March 2012. He has recently relocated to Victoria, BC and is engaged with Saltwater Inc.

 

 

Choreographer for Side by Side by Sondheim

Phoebe Rumsey, Choreographer

Ms. Phoebe Rumsey, director, choreographer and dancer for Saltwater, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Dance from Simon Fraser University and a Master of Arts in Theatre from UNLV. This fall, she directed Seussical for Saltwater in a very successful run of the beloved musical. Ms. Rumsey’s recent choreographic works include: for Saltwater: Mahagonny-Songspiel, The Mummer’s Masque, Pandora’s Locker and for Kaleidoscope Theatre: A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hair The Tribal Love-Rock Musical, The Rocky Horror Show, The Hobbit, Silverwing, I Love You, You’re Perfect Now Change, Working The Musical, Disney’s Aladdin Jr., The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. She also created “Filament” (with co-choreographer Amalia Shelhorn) for Tri-Pod Dance Collective’s Bounce Cabaret.

Ms. Rumsey has had an extensive professional dancing career that allowed for much traveling. She spent 5 years working as a dancer, singer and swing in Las Vegas at the Rio Hotel and Casino’s Masquerade Show in the Sky, as well as shows at Caesars, Harrah’s, and Studio 54 at MGM. She was a cast member of lavish Broadway revues in Japan and survived 3 seasons of raucous Can-can shows in Dawson City, Yukon. She was a dancer and singer in the National Tour of Sixties Mania and a dancer at The Butchart Gardens in Love Matters for APBY Productions. Most recently she choreographed and danced in The Saltwater Soiree at the Metro Theatre in Dec. 2011.
Ms. Rumsey, has previously taught dance classes in Toronto, Vancouver and in Victoria at Dansko Studios, Kaleidoscope Performing Arts Studio and Victoria Dance Connection.
